Linda Westerman and Cary Buttrum Representing The News-Press.

Carrie and Linda started at The News-Press in June of 2008. Both have a career background in real estate and have taken that experience to assist realtors in advertising their businesses. In the past year, The News-Press has re-vamped its real estate department and has hired a Real Estate Manager who has an extensive background in the local real estate market. She has filled the Real Estate Department with Sales Executives who have extensive real estate experience such as Linda and Carrie. It has been a very interesting career choice for us. There are so many advertising opportunities, that we have spent a large part of our time just learning the various publications and on-line opportunities available to realtors. Of course, learning our way around the building and taking a tour of the printing area was quite fascinating even though we didn't get to yell "Stop the presses!". We also got to sit in on the planning meeting with the editor so we knew the headlines for the next day! As realtors, we couldn't resist the opportunity to comment on the real estate coverage in The News Press. So, we met with Steve McQuilken, the Real Estate Editor and asked why the negative side of real estate seemed to make headlines. This is what we learned- In the Sunday Real Estate section in any average 8 week time-frame, The News-Press tries to consistently print at least four positive headlines. Of course, we wanted more headlines with positive statements, but we are forced to face reality. The News-Press is a newspaper and cannot make up the news, they can only report it. So, as the saying that goes..."it is what it is"... really sums it up. But we did make some changes that have a positive effect for realtors. Just as we don't report airline crashes in the Travel Section, whenever appropriate, the real estate doom and gloom articles are printed in a section other than Real Estate. We have also focused on bringing products to the market to be attractive to realtors in this challenging market. Keep reading our emails to learn about some exciting programs to have realtors able to market their business in an economical and effective manner. We are here to help realtors. Our goal is to continue to provide publications and opportunities that appeal to buyers and that make sellers appreciate what you are doing for them. We endeavor to work with realtors to find solutions that meet their needs.... call us, we will listen. "We'll see you in the funnies"!

Mary Margaret Embroli-Swanson
Sellstate Priority Realty

After careers in education, training and development, insurance, banking and finance, financial planning and most recently over 20 years in the real estate industry, in 2007 Mary Margaret retired from the full-time practice of real estate to start a new career in specialty foods as One Nutty Lady. She frequently jokes that everything else she has done in life has prepared her for this. The best preparation was motherhood: the ultimate training ground for multi-tasking. Her adult son and daughter are both well-adjusted, successful adults who survived growing up in a household with parents who were both teachers creating a learning laboratory focusing on creativity and discovery where things were rarely done the same way twice. Even better that parenthood is grand-parenthood. "If I'd known grandchildren were this much fun, I'd have had them first!" I'm so lucky to have my daughter and her family here in Cape Coral so I could always be involved in my grandson Chadd's life. For several years before he went off to college at FGCU, Chadd lived next door to us. Growing up in a large Italian family in Batavia, New York, where my grandparents had an Italian Restaurant, food always played an important part in my life from the beginning. Eating and cooking have always been a major part of my life. So delving into food as One Nutty Lady is a natural for me. Now I'm always researching or trying new ideas usually including nuts because they're so healthy and such a big part of my life now. I do make time for other things such as yoga, reading and knitting for stress reduction. Two of my favorite indulgences are bi-weekly massages and a nightly regimen in the hot tub. My favorite volunteer activities revolve around children; reading to them, playing with them, feeding them or just cuddling them. All that I do daily now includes a fair amount of laughter. When life gives you nuts, make nut butter! Don't sweat the small stuff and don't forget it's all small stuff. Never "should" on yourself or anybody else. Life's too short not to be happy and enjoy every day you have with those you love. That's one of the reasons I married Paul Swanson almost 18 years ago. He makes me laugh. He also makes everyone laugh about One Nutty Lady.com when he says he drove me to it. When I'm not making nuts, I'm working with our chapter president, Michele Schafer, at Sellstate Priority Realty. Or I'm plotting how to get One Nutty Lady on Oprah or Ellen. I love this anonymous quote: "Happiness consists of living each day as if it were the first day of your honeymoon and the last day of your vacation". ENJOY!
